I was very startled to learn just how damn dangerous just about everything we touched and used as artists was in the 70's and 80's. I vividly recall the sign on the printmaking studio doors... "No Student or Faculty Shall Enter This Studio Without Exhaust Fans Operating At All Times."

Small mishaps with airbrush dyes, photo stop bath and lacquer thinner put the fear of god and nasty death into me. Tends to make one... attentive. There was a very good OSHA booklet, Hazards for the Artist. Glad they issued it, nice to look things up in. But I refuse to own a copy; I'll be too freaking paranoid to work.
