Four Winds News: 2 February 2005
We came back from Hiatus with an particularly joyousOpen Bardic Circle on January 20. Nope to see more of you at future events and our next will be February 17th. We've started to plan the 2005 season—in pencil!—with some event ideas and things we might like to do.
TSUNAMI BENIFITWe offered ourselves to the Pagan Pride Project for a potential Tsunami Benefit and other programs, including potential Pagan Night Outs. Stay tuned. Since they have no immediate plans, hinging largely on acceptable venues., we're decided to investigate the the feasibility of organizing a cooperative community event, possibly with the New York Metropolitan Church and invite PPP and interested friends and supporters to participate. We'll let you know what develops.
THE PEACE WAVE DRUM CIRCLEA very interesting email crossed My E-desk, forwarded from from a fellow down in Kentucky who has been organizing these Drums-for-Peace circles. The idea is very intriguing, and I think it is certainly doable.

Subject: "Catch the Peace Wave" 10,000+ Drums for Peace
Greetings and Merry Meet Again,
I would like to invite you and yours to join 10,000+Drums for Peace in our second world wide drumming event.
The Peace Wave.
A call for world peace and environmental responsibility.
March 20th “ International Earth Day, Spring Equinox, Alban Eilir, Eostar, Eostre, Feast of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Festival of Trees, Lady Day,NawRuz , No Ruz, Ostara, The Return of the Sun Serpent, Ostra, Rites of Spring, Setsubun, and the Vernal Equinox”, is celebrated all over the world as a day of renewal and hope”.
Over the last year the earth has been sending us messages in the form of earthquake, floods, mudslides and tornados. We need a world wide response to bring attention to the damage we are doing to the mother of us all. A call for renewed commitment to our planet in short environmental responsibility.
This is also the day after the second anniversary of the start of the Iraq war. There are Antiwar protests planned across the country for March 19th. We need[to] reach out to all of them. Inviting them to join our circle. Join in our nonviolent but very loud world wide call for peace.
Heres how it will work;
To celebrate this day we are asking drum circles in the eastern time zone to start drumming at 12:00 noon EST and play the heartbeat for peace for 15 minutes then drum freestyle with the heartbeat as the root until 1:15 pm. Drummers in the central time zone will start at 12:00 noon CTZ playing the heartbeat for 15 minutes then freestyle with the heartbeat as the root until 1:15 and so on across the country and then around the world. So its easy, where ever you are in the United States start at noon and play until 1:15pm. For drummers in New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Asia, Middle East and Europe It will be noon on March 21st.
We can do this. We can drum a Peace Wave across the country and around the World.
For the next 50 days please help me to spread the word around the world.
If you are not already on the 10,000+ Drums for Peace up-date list e-mail me at upkentucky@yahoo.com and join our yahoo group; http://groups.yahoo.com/group/UP-Drums-for-Peace

10,000+ Drums for PeaceThis is a very powerful idea and I think it is worth doing. Some Members have already sent in some positive feedback. If a suitable venue - and drummers - could be found, this could be an excellent event to add to the Equinox festivities.
NEXT WORKSHOPWe had such a good time at our last workshop that we are planning another, this time concentrating on our Native American Material- The Bardic Path: Drum & Chant-Songs of Turtle Island, we had hoped for the Fall of 2004, but very much postponed by the Director's family situation. But we have not forgotten about this. We have not offered this material in some time, so we are looking to try to schedule it in the coming spring or summer.
Four Winds maintains a set of E-Lists to send out information about our activities. Not on a list? Email Us.
INVITATION TO SINGERS, DRUMMERS & MUSICIANSWe also want to let everyone out there know that there is a standing invitation to any interested person who has a joy for singing and for spirit to consider singing with the Chorus. We are, always interested in bring new people into our circle of song. Anybody with a good heart and willing to work and study is welcome. In the meantime we encourage you to keep singing, share songs and chants and wherever possible, encourage others.
Keep Drumming, Dancing and Singing!
Keep the Sacred Hoop vibrating with life and love.
