Four Winds News: 12 July 2004
Here's what we've been up to, and what we are planning.
QUEENS INTERFAITH AIDS MEMORIAL.
Our team came out for the annual Queens AIDS Memorial on June 4th. It was our 3rd appearance there, representing the community of Spirit and we were very much in good voice for this event. We did a very nice job with Invocation, I Am The Earth, a rocking rendition of Goin' Up On The Mountain/Break ' Em Down, and supporting the congregation on the anthem-like Never Turning Back and Priestess and Activist Wendy Moscow. Our thanks again to Deacon John Azzali for the return invitation. It was all the more gratifying to do well, since the other scheduled chorus was unable to attend. Feedback from both sponsors and the congregation was very positive, we'll just bask a bit now.
Kudos and thank you to the team, Alexandria, Athena, Carola, Dion, Elsbeth, Jezibell, Joni, Paula, Richard and yours truly. Wakan Aloh! Pilamaye!
We always very much enjoy this event as it so closely ties into our mission and spiritual path. Participating in interfaith events as representatives of earth religion in a powerful and supportive way is such a positive charge we'll try to do this event whenever asked!
DRUM & CHANT WORKSHOP
Our Drum and Chant Workshop at MNN Studios, July 10th was quite a success, with about twenty persons turning out and braving the cameras. We made a lot of noise and ran over a LOT of material in a total immersion of Scared Drum and chant. And to at least Kurt's mild surprise, everyone not only seemed to get it for the most part, they had a good time too! We have this one on recorded for Public Access Television, and will be eventually televised on Richard's The Courage Show. We'll let you know when it's going to air. You should see the place, VERY spiffy and nicely equipped. After a bit of adjusting to setting up for television production, the tape rolled, we ignored the cameras and let it rip! Big Fun Deluxe.
The Courage Show, Saturdays 6:00-6:30, on Manhattan Public Access channel 67, .
Since we concentrated on Pagan and Afro-Carribean material this time, we didn't have time to introduce some of our Native American and Native-Inspired material. So it occurred to us that the next workshop ought to just plain go there. So stay tuned for The Bardic Path: Drum & Chant-Songs of Turtle Island. Details here as soon as we can put them together.
Thanks going out to Gloria, Winston and the crew at MNN, Richard for the invitation and taking on literally ALL of the logistics headaches. Members Athena, Dion, Elsbeth, Paula and Richard for good voice, supporting the One, and bravery under camera. Special mention to irregulars Emily and Anna who turned out and added their voices and spirits. Each and every one of you makes it all possible. Washite!
