Four Winds News: 2 May 2004
Here's what we've been up to, and what we are planning.
THE FAMILY GROWS
First off, our affection and congratulations to our Chorus Sister Athena, who we rather missed at Beltane (see below), however with more than good reason. Please welcome to planet three, Liam Gabriel, 6 lbs-1.4 oz ., 20", born on Monday, April 26 at 11.54 am. His birth chart suggests a double-horned taurus of rather challenging strength of personality... Should be interesting.
LONG ISLAND BELTANE CELEBRATION
We had a very fine time at Copper Cauldron’s Wantaugh Beltane in the Park on May 1st. The gods provided a brilliant, if breezy day. While this made for a few interesting moments with microphones and music stands, it made the Dancing of the Maypoles all the more ...colorful. Special notes to participating Members, Paula, Elsbeth, Alexandria, Carola, Dion, Richard, and boss manKurt. Due to some spirited rehearsing, we sounded rather fine, and took the inevitable"live act" glitches in stride and good humor.
Please welcome to our ranks Dion, who in addition to helping fill out the painfully thin tenor section, brings a skilled voice of a flute to our growing instrumental section.
We would like to extend our thanks to event organizers Cyn Panzarella and Lady Venus for the invitation and the good time, and kudos to all the people of Copper Cauldron for what must have been a lot of hard work, and particularly to Eric, the hard-working young man in the DJ booth... er, tent.We are gratified that we put up with a bit of effort to haul out our serviceable if temperamental sound board, it really helped in the open-air setting. And a moment of mild drama when the rented generator ran out of gas just as we were setting up. But all overcome with
PLANS AND PLOTS FOR 2004.
As the season progresses, we are looking at putting ourselves more out into the community. We have been invited back to participate in the annual Queens AIDS Memorial once again on June 4th. If it should come to pass, this will be our 3rd appearance there, representing the community of Spirit.
Queens Interfaith AIDS Memorial
Friday, June 4, 7:00pm
Community Methodist Church,
81-10 35th Avenue , Jackson Heights, Queens, NYWe have once again been invited to represent the community of Earth Spirituality at this event. We would be joining a a gathering of spiritual leaders and musical celebrants from Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, and Wiccan Traditions to remember and retell and celebrate the lives of those who are infected by HIV/AIDS. A celebration of life, not simply a ritual of mourning.
Closer to home, we are looking at the annualNYC Pagan Pride Day in September for potential performance, workshop or ritual support. What would people like to see us doing at Pagan Pride Day in September?
DRUM & CHANT WORKSHOP
We haven't forgotten about the interest in Teaching Circles, particularly for drumming, If you or your group has an interest.in a teaching from the Chorus on things Bardic, please let us know.
We are looking into presenting a Drum and Chant Workshop to see about generating some buzz, serving the community and perhaps attracting new Members to the Chorus. We had been looking at the weekend prior to Memorial Day, while people are still in town will be good for people, Sat or Sun May 22 or 23, possibly mid June, but do not have the date set as yet - the logistics suggeste that mid-July will be a better bet. We’ll start getting the word out as soon as we have it set. Richard is working on geting us a slot at the MNN Studios for us to use, so we may have this one on recorded for Public Access Television. You should see the place, VERY spiffy and nicely eqipped. Fun!.
